1. Stretch and Exercise – Warm-up exercises are a must to stretch muscles that have been inactive. You can find easy to do home stretches here . When it comes to walking start off gradually, with a 15 minute walk in your neighborhood or around a park, working your way up to a 30 minute walk at least 3 days a week. Walking regularly, even at a moderate pace, will be beneficial by increasing cardiovascular fitness, strengthening bones, burn calories, and boost muscle power and endurance. It can also reduce your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers.

2. Wear Proper Shoes– Walking barefoot in the house exposes the feet to the micro-organisms in carpets and hardwood floors that can cause things like warts and athletes’ foot and can result in various injuries like puncture wounds by foreign bodies and cracking/fissuring of the skin of the heels. Protect your feet with sandals or tennis shoes. Slip on sport moccasins are a good choice for in the house. It’s easy to abuse our feet when walking. Hard surfaces increase shock to the feet so protect your feet with shoes that are cushioned or have shock-absorbing insoles.

3. Wash your feet – When you wash your feet dry them thoroughly making sure to get in between your toes. Long reach foot brushes are available to make washing easy. Massaging your feet with a moisturizer will provide nourishment to your skin, helps restore circulation, and will make your feet feel better overall.
