New Achilles Tendonitis Treatment
Dr. Goldstein is proud to announce an additional treatment for Achilles tendon pain (pain in the back of the heel) and plantar fasciitis (pain on the bottom of the heel). The treatment is simple, painless, and conveniently done in the office.
The treatment is called, Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP). It is a ground breaking non-operative treatment that relieves pain by naturally promoting long lasting healing of chronic ligament & tendon sprains/strains such as Achilles tendinitis.
Plasma is a component of blood that contains growth factors. PRP is plasma that is produced with a higher concentration of platelets than what is typically found in blood. The growth factors in the plasma is what orchestrates the key biological processes required for healing.
A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, just like a routine blood test. The entire process of drawing the blood and preparing the plasma concentration takes approximately 25-30 minutes. Once the blood is drawn it is then placed into a centrifuge. The centrifuge is a machine that spins the blood at high speeds and separates the blood into red blood cells, plasma, and concentrated platelets. The red blood cells are then removed and we are left with concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) which is then introduced into the injured tendon or ligament.
Most patients Achilles tendinitis start seeing results in a matter of 4-6 weeks following this treatment. PRP is a safe clinically accepted and tested procedure. Risks are minimal and complications are very rare. PRP is an especially safe treatment option with no risk for allergic reactions because it is your own blood.
Consult with Dr. Goldstein today to see if you are a good candidate for the Platelet Rich Plasma procedure.
